How CucuMe works.

When you look at somebody's website, it's like you're reading a brochure they've printed. They decide what to write, they decide what pictures to show you. They control what you're reading, and anything they don't want you to know about, they won't even mention. They're in charge.

But imagine if the brochure was given to you, not by the company, but by a friend. And imagine if he's written notes on it. Notes like "You can get that cheaper elsewhere", or "if you like this, you'll love ...", or "That's not true", or "but what about..?" or even "It's a scam!". Now the company is no longer in control of what you're reading. You are.

Until now, whenever you looked at somebody's website, they took control of your computer screen and showed you only what they wanted to show you, just like the brochure. It's even designed-into the modern Internet and modern browsers and modern law that it's impossible for anyone to modify what a website says, and illegal to try.

But now, there's CucuMe. CucuMe allows people to attach notes to the website - that is, people other than the people who own the website. People with something else to say. Whenever you look at the original website, you'll get a chance to see their notes as well. That means, the company is no longer in control of what you see and hear. You are.

You're back in control of your computer screen. Isn't that how life should be?

All about Cucu's

These notes that people add: they're called Cuckoo's Eggs, or "Cucu"s. And you already understand how they work!

Cucus in a browserWhenever you look at a website, you can ask CucuMe what it knows about the site. CucuMe sends you a list of Cucu's eggs - links to websites that are relevant to the website you're looking at. The big deal is: the website you're looking at has no control whatever over what the eggs are or what they say. If the website owners don't like the eggs, that's too bad.

How do eggs get attached to websites? They're put there, by other website owners. People who have something to say. People who would like to make a note on that brochure. People who would like to tap you on the shoulder as you're reading and say "Excuse me, but...". They put a link to their website onto our website, and then we send that link to you in an egg.

So, who does control the Cucu's? Ultimately, you do! Interesting and relevant Cucu's float to the top, and uninteresting, irrelevant, or blatant advertising links sink to the bottom and fall off the lists. And we know which ones are interesting and relevant becasue you tell us: you ask about them too!

A new kind of search

Until now, in order to find anything on the Internet you needed search engines. But, by their nature, the search engines have to be selective - there's so much out there, they can't possibly show you everything (and if they did, you'd never be able to read it all). What's more, search engines are not very good at answering questions of the form "Not like that - like this!"

That was fine if the one page you wanted to find was what the search engines wanted to show you. But if the one page you wanted wasn't in the first few results, probably you would never have found it at all!

But now there's CucuMe, there's a whole new way to find what you want. You can use the search engines to get somewhere close to what you want, and then use CucuMe to home in on the very thing you need. Suddenly, you can reach the whole Internet, not just a tiny piece of it!

How do I get started?
