This is a Cucu's Egg.This is a whole new way to find whatever you're looking for. |
Try it now!To get a feel for how the CucuMe system works, try it now. Key a web address into the box , and click "Show Me!". To make it easy, we've pre-loaded an address which we know has been "Cucu"ed. |
Why are we here? You know how... The search results are dominated by big companies and "what everybody knows"? You know how... The little guys don't have a voice. Well... We're that voice! |
Whenever you want to find something on the Internet, you'll probably start with a search engine - right? Chances are you'll start with Google, or it might be Yahoo or MSN - or someone else entirely.
Did you know that 90% of the world's websites aren't even indexed by the search engines? It may be that they're not well-connected, or that there's something wrong with the content of the pages, or the owner hasn't paid the necessary charges, or even that the page just hasn't been checked yet (it can take six months or more!). But, if the search engines haven't crawled a website, they can't tell you about it.
And even if a website is listed, that's no guarantee you'll ever find it. A search engine might throw up a million results. Who has time to scan more than a few dozen?
All this means, there's a whole Internet out there, and you never get to see more than a tiny fraction of it.
Many of them are, yes. But many of them can be very valuable. The kind of pages that you don't get to see are
The truth is that many of the pages you never get to see are very valuable indeed. One of them might be just the one you're looking for. But if you don't see it, you'll never know.
You start, just as you would normally, with a search engine. When you find a page something like the one you're looking for, you click on it, and take a look.
And that's when the magic starts! Because
alongside the page you've just found, you'll get a list of other pages - some
will be similar to the one you've found, some might be rather different, but
all will be relevant to it in some way. If any of the pages in the list catch
your eye, just click on it, and you'll get another new list. And click again,
and again, until you've found exactly what you want!
Want to see it in action? Have a look at this demo.
It's all done with Cuckoo's eggs! Cuckoo's eggs, or "Cucu"s, are links to a webpage which are placed by their owners on somebody else's webpage. They're like bookmarks, only they're attached to a website, not to your browser. But that means that, for example, when you reach a page offering a TV for sale, somebody might have put an egg on the page advertising the same TV cheaper, and you can be at their page in just one more click.
Why "Cuckoo's Eggs"?Cuckoos don't build their own nests - instead they lay their eggs in other birds' nests, and the chicks are brought up by complete strangers. Just like CucuMe's eggs! |
So, instead of using the search engines to find the one page you want in one go, you can use CucuMe eggs to"home-in" on what you want.
If you'd like to understand more about how the system works, take a look at our How It Works page and our FAQ page.
To get going, you'll need to download the CucuMe Client, which adds-in to your browser. And then - it's all done for you
Please note: CucuMe is still under development. We're still in the process of building this system, and not all of it is online yet. You're likely to hit several non-existent pages as you explore the site. Nevertheless, what has been put online should work, and you're welcome to experiment with it. We're running live data, and we've got our security in place, so you're welcome to test the site using your own webpages. When the system goes fully live, it will do so with all your data already loaded. We're still building the site, so 404 (page not found) errors are not malfunctions! If you find any other problems, or you have any suggestions for something you'd like to see in the system, please drop us a line here. |
